Bored Ape Yacht Club parent company, Yuga Labs, has hired Chris Fortier as its VP of product, the company announced on Wednesday. Fortier joins Yuga Labs from digital currency launchpad, Rally.

Fortier will support the Yuga Labs ecosystem across NFT, metaverse, Web3 and product initiatives in his new role. He will also be involved with advancing the company’s five NFT collections: Bored Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, Meebits, Voyagers and Mutant Ape Yacht Club.

Prior to joining Yuga Labs, Fortier was VP of product at Rally for one year, where he scaled the platform’s core product to onboard more than 300 distinct communities by creating new economies using fungible social tokens (creator coins) and non-fungible tokens (utility-focused NFTs).

At Rally, he also executed weekly releases of new features including core NFT marketplaces, token minting, fiat economic functions, and crafted Rally Rewards, a tokenomics incentive system for the platform’s native token.

Before jumping into Web3, Fortier led the product for music team at Twitch, and was director of product at Electronic Arts. He has a combined total of 10 years experience managing and leading products for different gaming and tech companies including Zynga and TapZen.

As hiring in Web3 is still going strong, a number of former Electronic Arts executives have made the switch to Web3 recently. This includes Jamil Moledina, who was appointed VP of game partnerships & media at Lamina1; Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who was hired at OneFootball Labs as CEO; and Isabelle Henriques, who joined Klang Games as co-CEO in July.

Yuga Labs has been expanding its team, recently onboarding former MeebitsDAO general manager, Danny Greene, as Meebits’ brand lead.

Earlier this week, Yuga Labs granted full IP rights to NFT holders, allowing owners to use the imagery for personal and commercial projects including restaurants, TV shows, apparel and more.

Meebits will also be integrated into Yuga Labs’ metaverse, Otherside.
