Lamina1 – the first Layer-1 blockchain purpose-built for the open metaverse – today announced that it has appointed former Electronic Arts (EA) and Google exec Jamil Moledina as the company’s first Vice President of Games Partnerships & Media.

Prior to joining Lamina1, Jamil Moledina was the CEO of software development company, Hexagram. The company’s cloud tech integrates AI characters, scripted narratives, procedural content, and ML generative systems to create an immersive metaverse.

From 2014 to 2018, Jamil Moledina was on the management team at Google, where he defined and executed objectives for Google Play store management; served as creative director of games portfolios for new Google platforms and as games spokesperson for press and industry keynotes.

He also previously co-founded Wormhole Games as CEO and developed the iOS game Tank Nation; led mobile game developer Funzio’s business development to acquisition by Gree; helped introduce third-party digital console games publishing at EA; and headed the Game Developers Conference.

Jamil Moledina brings with him 20 years of experience across various functions in the gaming industry. To strengthen the partnership with the gaming community, the Lamina1 team is leveraging Moledina’s background in supporting the developer community.

In his new role, Moledina has brought Lamina1 into games portfolios for new platforms, given the company access to the resources of a leading game publisher, and spotlighted the Layer-1 blockchain at the Game Developers Conference.

“Neal’s vision of the Metaverse has been with me since Snow Crash was seared into my brain, and it’s thrilling to be working with him and Peter to help bring it to life,” said Moledina. “The game dev community has a natural advantage in making the Metaverse wondrous and fun – and now we’re at a moment when we can also make it worthwhile for everyone.”

Neal Stephenson coined the term “Metaverse” in his novel Snow Crash, presenting a fully realised vision of a virtual world. The concept inspired a generation of Web2 technologists including Mark Zuckerberg, who famously rebranded Facebook as Meta and began developing a metaverse, as well as crypto veteran Peter Vessenes.

Vessenes co-founded Lamina1 with Stephenson to use blockchain to empower creators in an open metaverse. Lamina1’s chain technology, cryptographic model and extensive intellectual property partnerships will be announced throughout 2022.

“Lamina1 is intended to be the best place to build the Open Metaverse,” said Vessenes. “Much of what we need to do is build a diverse community of creators – technical, artistic, business. Jamil’s experience, character and the broad respect he’s earned in his career made him a very high-priority recruit – we were lucky to have him sign on with the team, and I can’t wait to see what he does for those who want to build out the Open Metaverse!”
