Polkadot has announced the launch of the newly Verified Polkadot SDK, a software development kit that simplifies the development process for creators and developers on building Web3 games on the network.
The SDK seamlessly connects the functionality of development software directly into the Polkadot ecosystem. Developers will also receive support from a dedicated tech team to assist in game integration.
The announcement comes following the recent verification of Polkadot Play by Unity, one of the world’s leading providers of software and tools for building games, apps and experiences across multiple platforms.
The integration is part of Polkadot’s strategy of onboarding new users to its gaming dApp ecosystem. Polkadot has adopted the OpenGov system, which helps promising gaming projects access funding, bounties and active VCs operating in the ecosystem.
Commenting on the prospect of using the new SDK to build games, Nicholas Douzinas, Co-founder of Polkadot-based gaming platform Ajuna said in a statement: “Polkadot Play represents a monumental step forward in decentralizing blockchain-powered gaming. By creating a hub focused on gaming, we showcase the potential in Polkadot, and provide a single point of entry for game developers to start building.” Ajuna raised $5 million in a funding round led by CMCC Global in February 2023.
According to the announcement, Polkadot Play looks to offer more than technical support, by connecting developers with potential partners and collaborators based on business opportunities.
Polkadot Play has also collaborated with Blockchain Gaming Alliance to introduce the Game Jam (hackathon) in 2024, an initiative that invites developers to build on the Polkadot SDK for Unity.
The Polkadot dApp ecosystem has been experiencing growth over the past twelve months with the popular Web3 gaming project Mythical Games launching a “gaming super chain” on the network in April last year.
Last October, Web3 Foundation, which runs Polkadot launched a $41 million fund comprised of CHF 20 million, approximately $22.08 million and 5 million DOT tokens (~$19.2 at the time) to drive innovation on the Network in 2024.
Electronic music platform Beatport also announced its foray into Web3 with the launch of an NFT Marketplace on Polkadot in July last year.
