Quick take:

  • Mythical Games and Polkadot have teamed up to create “the largest and most connected gaming ecosystem in web3.”
  • The announcement coincides with the launch of NFL Rivals, the NFL’s first official blockchain video game developed in collaboration with Mythical Games.
  • Mythical Games will also introduce and launch Mythos “Superchain” for Mythos Ecosystem, developed to lower barriers to entry into web3 gaming.

Mythical Games is ditching Ethereum for the more interoperable multichain network Polkadot. The announcement of the partnership comes barely a month after two of Ethereum’s largest scaling solutions Polygon and Immutable teamed up to create a new gaming infrastructure powered by zero-knowledge rollups, the Immutable zkEVM

Mythical Games announced Wednesday that it is collaborating with Polkadot to power the next generation of gaming. And the company thinks that with Polkadot’s interoperable ecosystem, the two companies can create “the largest and most connected gaming ecosystem in web3.”

The company said the migration of the Mythical Chain will also see it introduce and launch the Mythical “Superchain” for the benefit of the Mythos ecosystem, its decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO) created to reduce barriers to entry for game developers on Polkadot.

The partnership has added millions of new users to both Mythical Chain and Polkadot Network and will also allow new gaming partners and projects to leverage Polkadot’s parachain technology, creating a massive new web3 gaming ecosystem.

The announcement also coincides with the launch of NFL Rivals, the NFL’s first official blockchain video game developed in collaboration with Mythical Games.

Commenting on the announcement, John Linden, Founder and CEO of Mythical Games, said: “The decision to leave the Ethereum ecosystem is a combination of issues surrounding relatively slow transaction speeds, even with L2 roll-ups, that would ultimately hinder Mythical’s scaling plans with our new games this year.” Linden said the decision to migrate to Polkadot was easy to make after discussions with multiple blockchain protocols.

“Polkadot’s commitment to innovation, security, and governance provides the most value for our community. We believe this new technology will not only support our growth efforts but also enable other Mythos partners to utilize this technology for their own high-scale projects,” he added.

This transition will allow Mythos gaming partners to build their own chains on the Mythical Ecosystem without sacrificing interoperability or connectivity, which will result in the creation of a new “Superchain”, the company wrote in a press release on Wednesday.

The Superchain, in this case, serves a similar purpose to the Immutable zkEVM gaming platform. According to the announcement, Mythical Games’ “Superchain is described as, “a scalable platform that will be accessible to all Mythos partners and compliant with Web2 gaming platforms, including the Epic Games Store, without sacrificing interoperability or connectivity.”

Björn Wagner, CEO of Parity Technologies, a leading contributor to the Polkadot network, commented: “We are thrilled Mythical Games was drawn to the unique strengths of Polkadot, which allows projects to create their own ecosystems within Polkadot, including their own governance and treasury. Together with Mythical, we look forward to onboarding additional AAA gaming companies and gamers to the Mythos ecosystem, bringing Polkadot one step closer to becoming the global leader in next-generation gaming.”
