OneOf has launched “The Sky’s the Limit: The Notorious B.I.G. NFT Collection” to honour the legacy of Biggie Smalls. The eco-friendly NFT platform will allow Smalls’ fans to license an audio of his famous “Fulton Street Freestyle” recording via NFTs.
Smalls filmed the record at the age of 17, and according to reports, it has never been released or used by other artists.
The audio will be made part of the NFT collection offered via OneOf and will comprise 3D characters based on Smalls’ authentic style and uniqueness.
This is not the first time Smalls’ company is making a foray into Web3. In March, Notorious B.I.G., LLC, which owns the intellectual property of the late American rapper filed three trademark applications with the US Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO) indicating plans for NFTs and the metaverse.
And in 2020, a crown worn by the rapper in his last career photoshoot became Sotheby’s first hip-hop auction.
The latest NFT announcement will allow Biggie’s fans to license and use his unreleased audio in their own soundtracks beginning July 26.
In an interview with Hypemoon, OneOf COO, Joshua James said: “Our platform puts fans in the driver’s seat of Biggie’s music and allows for endless creativity.”
OneOf has also created a gamified virtual experience called “The Brook” to be made available to the project’s community.
Those looking to gain access to the game will need to purchase generative “Sky’s the Limit” NFTs. The platform will offer among other experiences “fashion, culture, music, lifestyle and entertainment in the metaverse” featuring Smalls’ new NFT character.
Highlighting OneOf’s eco-friendly status, James explained: “Minting an NFT on OneOf’s platform uses up to 2 million times less energy than proof-of-work networks, and for its users, purchasing NFTs costs $0 USD in blockchain gas fees.”
“By using OneOf’s platform, it has enabled us to honour and celebrate the legacy of The Notorious B.I.G. through his music and to reimagine his iconic style,” he added.
