MLS Club Orlando City SC Forays Into NFTs and Metaverse Fan Engagement with Socios.com Partnership

Top tier US Major League Soccer club Orlando City SC has inked a multi-year deal with Socios.com. The Florida-based club announced the deal on Wednesday, saying that the popular fan engagement platform will also be the entitled partner for Orlando City’s upcoming ‘College Night’ match on Aug. 31 against the Seattle Sounders.

Socios.com is a platform that promotes soccer fan engagement through non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse. The platform has already onboarded several football clubs across Europe creating unique digital assets that fans can buy to celebrate their involvement with their clubs.

Orlando City is looking to tap into the platform’s experience and expertise in fan engagement to create better relationships with its fans. In addition to other sponsorship-related trade-offs, Socios.com will become the club’s official partner.

“With a shared vision in leveraging next-generation technology mixed with progressive experiences, the Socios.com and Orlando City partnership forges a deeper connection with fans, and fuels growth on and off the field,” Orlando City SC wrote in a statement announcing the partnership.

Socios is looking to create a unique community for MLS fans, encompassing all 26 clubs drafted in the league’s top tier. The platform is looking to bring exciting experiential products to fans, all from one app starting in the 2022 season.

The deal is primarily targeting the younger generation of fans with the millennials accounting for the majority of the audience of any major U.S. sport. 

“Socios.com seeks to enable Orlando City to combine its commitment to innovation and technology to leverage blockchain technology to provide the Club tools to engage with fans in more immersive ways,” the statement reads.

The Socios.com app will be integrated across league and partner clubs’ social channels with the deal also entitling it with signage at partner clubs’ home games.

Max Rabinovitch, Socios.com’s Chief Strategy Officer commented: “Joining forces with Orlando City SC to explore what the best iteration of our blockchain-based fan engagement product will become is truly exciting.”

“This partnership is going to have far-reaching positive impacts on our evolution and shed light on what the Socios fan engagement universe on the blockchain can be,” Rabinovitch added.
