LG Uplus has announced its entry into the metaverse. The LG Corp subsidiary is launching Meta Plus a digital services platform that enables office workers to join the business of fashion in the metaverse.
The company is teaming up with the locally-based fashion company Ation Fashion, which runs the casual brand Polham, and Z-Emotion, a 3D simulation-based costume production software designer.
Z-Emotion had developed a solution that enables users to make metaverse costumes. LG Uplus will use the metaverse clothing store to give workers a platform to develop metaverse commerce in fashion.
Meta Slap is an online store that combines real and virtual worlds. The platform will offer both avatar clothes and items and offline products.
According to an LG Uplus source close to the project, the company believes there is huge potential for the business of fashion in the metaverse. “Metaverse platform Roblox says five of 10 metaverse users were found to dress up their avatars at least once a week,” the source said.
According to the announcement on Sunday, the three companies will incorporate artificial intelligence in the Metaverse platform’s fitting rooms.
The business of fashion in the metaverse has grown significantly due over the past 18 months, with the likes of DRESSX a digital fashion designer signing partnership deals with multiple companies including Warner Music Group.
Several luxury brands, Gucci, Ralph Lauren and L’Oreal have all launched metaverse fashion products. Investors have also flocked in with House of BlueBerry raising $6 million, while DRESSX raised $15 million.
Although the metaverse has been dismissed in some media reports as a passing fad, the continued influx of mainstream companies indicates that there is strong interest in the industry, at least for now.
