French football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Mandopop superstar Jay Chou, represented by Edison’s Co., recently announced they have teamed up to launch a new metaverse art project.

Details of the metaverse art project are scarce but the promotional video on Instagram teasing a preview of the artwork features Messi, Neymar and Chou, as well as PSG’s mascot with Chou’s distinctive style of design.

Messi previously inked a $20 million deal to promote digital fan token, Socios while Neymar has several NFTs in his collection, including a few Bored Apes.

Chou is Asia’s top pop singer and has also starred in The Green Hornet and Now You See Me 2. Last year, he was one of the most-streamed artists in numerous Asian countries on Spotify and his online concert last month received over 100 million views.

On Jan 1, Chou’s fashion brand, PHANTACi launched the Phantabear NFT collection, which was sold out in 40 minutes. The NFTs cost more than $1000 USD each at the time and increased by more than threefold with the total value of the NFTs valued at $53 million USD by January 10.

Chou is also an NFT collector and recently fell victim to a phishing attack as he had BAYC, MAYC, and two Doodles stolen from him.

In this strategic partnership, PSG expects the relationship with Mandopop icon will broaden its reach in Asia. Chou likewise is hoping to expand his reach in Europe and could soon announce a concert at Parc des Princes, PSG’s stadium, marking the first time a Mandarin artist has performed there.

Besides the mutually beneficial partnership to grow each other’s reach, Chou and PSG will be campaigning to raise awareness and funds for impoverished children through the PSG Endowment Fund.

This news follows PSG’s Web3 trademark applications filed in March. The applications indicate plans for the football club to offer NFTs of sports highlights, apparel and footballs for use in online virtual worlds, downloadable computer software for managing cryptocurrency transactions using blockchain technology, cryptocurrency hardware wallets and more.
