Quick take:

  • Neymar changed his Twitter profile picture to a Bored Ape NFT he purchased yesterday.
  • He owns another more valuable Bored Ape.
  • He has several other NFTs from different collections.

Legendary football star Neymar has joined the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) family with the purchase of two Bored Apes. Yesterday, he proudly shared an image of Bored Ape #6633 on Twitter with his 55.7 million followers and is using the NFT art as his profile picture (pfp).

While he has yet to verify his NFT pfp with Twitter’s newly launched NFT pfp verification feature, proof of ownership can be seen on his OpenSea activity history.

Neymar purchased Bored Ape #6633 for 159.99 ETH just before revealing it on Twitter. He also bought another more expensive one: Bored Ape #5269 for 189.69 ETH. In total, he has spent more than a million dollars on both NFTs.

The pro footballer is an avid NFT collector, as he owns several other NFTs from different collections including derivatives of CryptoPunks, Doodles and BAYC selling flipped versions of the original artwork.

Neymar also owns an ENS domain named neymar-loves-rarepepes.eth, referencing the green frog meme popular amongst crypto enthusiasts.

Despite two of the biggest stars in sports – Neymar and Serena Williams – both posting about their BAYC NFTs just hours apart from each other, it hasn’t made an impact on BAYC’s performance today.
