TradFi Senior Execs Leave Financial Services Company Jefferies to Co-Found Crypto Financial Services Startup

In the latest moves from TradFi to Crypto and Web2 to Web3, former Jefferies execs are creating a crypto services startup while former Twitch and IBM execs have joined Unstoppable Domains.

Former TradFi senior execs Anthony Mazzarese and Brandon Mulvihill have left financial services company Jefferies to co-found a startup that will serve institutional clients in the crypto space.

Mazzarese was Jefferies’ global head of FX prime brokerage distribution, while Mulvihill was the global head of FX prime brokerage. Both spent five years at Jefferies. While exact details of the new venture have yet to be revealed, Mazzarese told Blockworks that they will “focus on bridging the gap between traditional financial services and digital assets through industrial-grade technology, trade flow expertise and attractive commercial terms.”

Currently, Mazzarese and Mulvihill are assembling a team and securing funding. More details about the startup will be revealed in the coming weeks.

In other Web2 to Web3 hiring news, NFT domain service Unstoppable Domains has hired former Twitch VP of business development for the EMEA region, Sajjad Rehman, as its head of Europe. Former IMB exec Nilkanth Iyer joins the company as its head of Asia.

Unstoppable Domains is a single sign-on service on Ethereum and Polygon that enables users to log into Web2 and Web3 apps with their NFT domain as a username. 

As head of Europe, Sajjad will focus on bringing on new partners, including crypto wallets and exchanges, fintech, metaverse applications, and gaming platforms. Leading Asia expansion efforts, Nilkanth Iyer will focus on partnering with wallets and exchanges to grow the number of users of Unstoppable Domains.

Former Deutsche Bank legal counsel Ehsan Haque has been appointed general counsel for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at digital asset platform Amber Group. In his latest role, he was the global head of legal and compliance for private equity firm Hamilton Capital Holdings.

The new hire comes after Amber Group raised $200 million last month led by Singapore’s state holding company Temasek, bringing the company to a valuation of about $3 billion.

DeFi markets infrastructure company Bosonic has hired Paddy Boyle as its global head of clearing and derivatives. He previously spent 16 years as the global head of foreign exchange options at Goldman Sachs.

Former Treasurer of the United States, Rosie Rios, has joined the board of directors of Unicorn Hunters. The investment platform and TV show provide viewers access to pre-IPO ventures. In her role, Rios is tasked with making Unicoin the top equity-backed cryptocurrency in the world.
