Japanese crypto exchange and wallet platform Coincheck has extended its partnership with The Sandbox to develop a digital city in the digital land and the gaming platform’s metaverse.

Coincheck is developing a metaverse city called “Oasis TOKYO” based on what the world might look like in 2035. The city will be built The Sandbox’s digital real estate and metaverse project LAND, which has recently attracted several corporations building virtual offices in the new digital world.

Metaverse users will be able to interact and attend virtual shows within the city. It will be made up of Japanese art museums, stages, and other facilities, giving it a real-life reminiscent of a Japanese cityscape.

Coincheck said it will encourage Japanese artists to provide fan engagement activities and companies to build their own communities within the Oasis TOKYO metaverse city.

The partnership is an extension of Coincheck’s previous collaborations with The Sandbox after teaming up in September 2020 to promote the digital land and metaverse gaming platform’s brand in Japan.

The deal also saw Coincheck list The Sandbox’s LAND NFTs, which were also available for trading in the Japanese crypto exchange’s NFT marketplace ‘Coincheck NFT’.

Announcing the new partnership on Sunday, Sebastien Borget, COO of The Sandbox highlighted the two companies’ close relationship since partnering in 2020 that has seen The Sandbox continue to sell LAND on Coincheck NFT’s Beta version.

“With growing interests in metaverses globally, we are extremely excited about the opportunities to offer actual metaverse experiences to our users,” Borget added.

Coincheck’s metaverse city is expected to go live in the spring of this year and Kensuke Amo, Executive Director of Coincheck thinks that it is about time his company took the NFT and crypto investments to the next level.

In the statement sent to media services, Amo said the company believed the Oasis TOKYO metaverse will grow to be one of the leading virtual worlds globally.

“We are committed to helping artists and companies connect with their fans and build communities in the metaverse. I am personally excited about the development of this project. I have no doubt that users will enjoy this joint project of Coincheck and The Sandbox,” he said.
