Quick take:

  • The solution seeks to improve the efficiency and transparency of global fund clearing and settlement between banks.
  • HSBC recently completed a pilot of the solution under the Hong Kong Monetary Authority Fintech Supervisory Sandbox.

Ant International has unveiled its Web3 technology stack that will power next-generation treasury solutions. The technology leverages zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs, artificial intelligence (AI), and decentralised finance (DeFi) to improve the efficiency and transparency of global fund clearing and settlement, and enable 24/7 real-time, on-demand and multi-currency treasury fund movement between bank accounts.

Presenting the tech solutions and their use cases at the Tech Stage of the Singapore Fintech Festival, Kelvin Li, Head of Global Fund Platform at Ant International said the solutions have already been deployed across multiple business scenarios of Ant International including cross-border acquiring and instant tax refund services.

The solutions can be used by SMEs to significantly reduce their payment collection period, while international travellers can enjoy instant tax refunds.

Commenting on the announcement, Li said: “The development and application of the solutions is another demonstration of Ant International’s long-term commitment to resolving industries’ pain points through technological innovations. We will continue to leverage Web3 and other fintech innovations to improve the efficiency and trustworthiness of treasury management while exploring more innovative and inclusive services.”

This announcement follows Ant International’s collaboration with HSBC to run a pilot of a deposit tokenisation tool that utilises one of its Web3 technology-powered treasury solutions. The test successfully leveraged tokenised deposits in intra-group payment transactions under the Hong Kong Monetary Authority Fintech Supervisory Sandbox.

Luxembourg-based Banking Circle announced this week that it will leverage Ant International’s solutions for a liquidity management project.

Ant International and its partners are also running trials of enhanced global treasury management solutions including Project Guardian led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as it explores the transformative potential of tokenization.
