Animoca Brands Joins Celo’s Mobile-First Infrastructure to Expand Web3 Gaming Ecosystem

Animoca Brands is ramping up its web3 gaming ecosystem with a new partnership with Celo. The web3 investment and digital rights advocate said Wednesday it is joining the carbon-negative, mobile-first, EVM-compatible blockchain ecosystem.

Celo’s platform is home to more than 1,000 web3 projects that are building to drive social impact and climate action in over 150 countries.

Animoca Brands is tapping into Celo’s expansive network with targets an addressable market of over 6.4 billion mobile phone users. 

Celo offers easy-to-use native wallets and decentralised apps allowing it to provide frictionless mobile payments. 

According to the press release, the carbon-negative blockchain has already offset 4,104 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-eq) completing over 240 million transactions at the protocol layer since its mainnet launched on Earth Day 2020.

With this partnership, Animoca Brands becomes the first entertainment and gaming company among Celo’s over 100 members that are looking to bring blockchain to the masses through financial inclusion, innovative project development efforts, and local and regional blockchain education campaigns.

The company also joins other leading web3 companies including Coinbase Ventures and a16z, alongside Deitche Telecom as part of Celo’s validator network.

There are also discussions between Celo and Animoca to expand their partnership through joint collaborations in strategic initiatives and integrations focused on promoting social impact and climate action.

Commenting on the partnership, Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, said: “We are thrilled to participate in the Celo ecosystem, which has been deeply committed to last-mile solutions and real-world adoption of Web3 in a truly global manner. Reinsberg thinks that combining the two communities could help onboard the next billion users into web3.
