Leading non-fungible token (NFT) card game Splinterlands has reached another key milestone after surpassing 2 billion games played. The popular play-to-earn (P2E) game has sold millions of cards, driving its rapid growth.

The announcement of the 2 billion games played milestone achievement comes at the back of a successful $1 million unboxing event held on March 17. The event was backed by Side Door Ventures and Balthazar who provided $1 million worth of Splinterlands assets awarded to the scholars in form of Chaos Legion packs.

Other notable activities and events during the unboxing included “3,000 Balthazar scholarships awarded, a live lottery was held with 1 BCX gold foil cards to be won, [and] the announcement of the scholarship incentive program by Balthazar,” the company wrote in a press release.

The event was held via live stream with NicoThePico and Splinterlands’ Bulldog leading the unboxing of the packs.

Splinterlands Chaos Legion is one of the most popular card packs within the game. Earlier this year, the company sold more than 6 million card packs within 24 hours with the Chaos Legion pack raking in $24 million within the first 30 minutes of opening the general sale.

The company announced reaching the 1 billion games played milestone later that month, before becoming Warner Music’s official gaming partner in the US entertainment company’s leap to P2E gaming.

Splinterlands unboxing events are key to improving the player experience as it continues to beef up its rewards program.

Commenting on the latest event, Jesse Reich, the CEO of Splinterlands said it was a huge milestone for the company.

“With Side Door Ventures teaming up with Balthazar, we were able to open an NFT management program, which we believe is the first-ever program that allows NFT holders to get a return on their digital assets.”

Splinterlands debuted last year, backed by some of the leading venture capital firms in the crypto space. Blockchain Founders Fund, Side Door Ventures, Bitcoin.com, Sesame seed, and Wax have all played a part in making Splinterlands the leading NFT-based P2E game in the industry.

Aly, the Managing Partner of Blockchain Founders Fund lauded Splinterlands’ achievement saying “we’ve seen the Splinterlands’ team trailblaze many features and milestones in the industry supported by unwavering work ethic and dedication to the community.”
