Ubisoft and Immutable have teamed up to build new blockchain gaming experiences. The two companies will collaborate to develop AAA games with Web3 functionality through Unisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab.
Commenting on the partnership, Nicolas Pouard, who heads up Ubisoft’s blockchain initiative lauded Immutable’s blockchain infrastructure and its ability to integrate web3 elements in games as key to the partnership.
Last year, immutable teamed up with layer-2 Ethereum scaling protocol Polygon to launch a zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs-based scaling solution for games, the Immutable zkEVM. The platform allows blockchain game developers to build highly scalable projects, which are ideal for the mainstream adoption of blockchain games.
“We’re excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing that level of fluidness within a full-fledged game, so players only have to focus on the fun of the experience,” Pouard said.
On the other hand, Immutable co-founder and CEO James Ferguson thinks this collaboration marks an important milestone in Web3 gaming, opening the industry to the traditional gaming community.
“We couldn’t be more excited to explore with Ubisoft the benefits of Web3 and digital ownership for players. We plan to bring the full weight of our ecosystem to bear to ensure the partnership’s success,” Ferguson said. “We are confident that we will bring to life a fresh new experience that players will love.”
The immutable gaming ecosystem is already home to some of the most successful blockchain games, including Guild of Guardians, Metalcore, Shardbound and Infinite Victory. The company’s blockchain infrastructure enables mainstream blockchain gaming studios to easily integrate Web3 gaming elements into AAA games.
