Quick take:

  • Tony Hawk and Autograph are partnering with The Sandbox to build a metaverse skatepark.
  • The skatepark will be built on a 6×6 LAND.
  • Hawk and Autograph have previously teamed up for an NFT collection.

Skateboard legend Tony Hawk has teamed up with Tom Brady’s NFT platform, Autograph, and The Sandbox to create the largest skatepark in the metaverse. Built on a 6×6 plot of LAND, Tony Hawk’s metaverse skate park will feature themed experiences.

In this partnership, Autograph will release a series of avatars based on Hawk’s likeness and NFTs of his most iconic skateboards, equipment, and apparel, including the board he used to land the 900 – one of skateboarding’s most technically demanding moves – at the 1999 X Games.

Tony Hawk’s NFT avatars released by Autograph will be interoperable on The Sandbox, as they can be turned into 3D voxels with in-game functionality and added utility.

“I have been a fan of new technology all of my life – from the first videogames and home computers with CGI capabilities, so I am fascinated by the metaverse, and excited to bring our culture into the landscape,” said Tony Hawk.

A world champion skateboarder for 12 years in a row, Hawk has inspired 20 games and other merchandise over the course of his career. Some of the best-selling gaming titles include the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series and the 2003 title Tony Hawk’s Underground.

“Tony Hawk embodies the perseverance of constantly striving for improvement while never giving up, and it forged him into a skateboarding legend and successful entrepreneur,” said Sebastien Borget, The Sandbox’s COO and co-founder. “We share his passion for innovation, creativity, and the drive to constantly create something: this is the energy that powers our entertainment metaverse. There’s no better way to bring skateboarding culture to The Sandbox than by following the example of the greatest skateboarder of all time, whose legacy stretches from the sport and lifestyle’s early days to the present and beyond.”

Hawk and Autograph have previously teamed up to release an NFT collection that came with a signed physical skateboard in April, as well as his “Last Trick” NFT collection last December, featuring five animated digital collectibles depicting his signature moves.

“At Autograph, we strive to build otherwise impossible experiences for communities of fans and this is a step towards our goal of connecting them uniquely and at scale to Tony Hawk and each other,” said Dillon Rosenblatt, co-founder and CEO at Autograph. “We are thrilled to be working with The Sandbox and Tony Hawk on this activation and many others.”
