Punk 6529 will teach at the University of Nicosia’s (UNIC) Master of Science in Metaverse program. The MSc in Metaverse program is building on the successful foundation the Univerity has built with its flagship MOOC NFTs and the Metaverse curriculum.
The program is delivered on-chain and inside the metaverse and is taught by UNIC faculty and Punk 6529, who UNIC describes as “a deeply influential thinker on NFTs and the metaverse and one of the largest NFT collectors in the world.”
Punk 6529 is joined by faculty members including guest lecturers in the program Balaji Srinivasan, Fred Wilson, Chris Dixon, and Beeple, all of whom have established themselves in the crypto and web3 space.
According to the University of Nicosia, the first intake for the course in October 2022 attracted more than 20,000 online students.
The University of Nicosia has launched a scholarship program worth €300,000 annually to further support exceptional students looking to pursue an MSc in Metaverse studies.
Commenting on the announcement, UNIC said: “By combining technical expertise with essential soft skills and competencies, such as 3D modelling and design, VR/AR development, blockchain/NFT, data skills, project management, marketing, communication, creativity, and collaboration, the program provides a comprehensive foundation for success in this emerging field.”
The Crprus-based educational institution has already started accepting applications for the September 2023 intake for the MSc in Metaverse program. The program is structured into three semesters spread over one year, from September to August. It covers thematic areas including Metaverse Management and Metaverse Development, each offering specialised courses for gaining a well-rounded knowledge of the metaverse.
Professor George Giaglis, Professor at the University of Nicosia, and Executive Director of UNIC’s Institute for the Future expressed his excitement about the launch, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce the world’s first MSc in Metaverse, showcasing our commitment to delivering forward-thinking education that addresses the demands of rapidly evolving industries. The metaverse represents the future of human interaction and offers tremendous potential across various sectors. Through this program, we aim to empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in this exciting new landscape.”
According to the institution, the MSc in Metaverse is a fully accredited, interdisciplinary program, catering for multiple professions including creators, developers, architects, social scientists, financial professionals, policymakers and builders of the metaverse, among others.
