Quick take:

  • Really has announced a partnership with Avalanche Blockchain to bring new experiences to its Ar digital collectibles movie tickets.
  • The company also announced an expansion to cinema partners in Japan, Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
  • As part of its partnership with Avalanche, the company is launching the Fandime NFTs, which come bundled with a blockchain-based ID.

AI digital collectible ticketing platform Really (formerly Moviebill) has partnered with Avalanche to launch the Fandime NFTs on the layer-2 blockchain.

Really provides Web3 and AR interactive experiences based on the latest blockbuster movies. It is now partnering with the layer-2 Ethereum scaler to bring new experiences to its digital collectible ticket holders.

According to the announcement, holders of the Fandime NFTs will also receive a blockchain-based digital ID minted on the Avalanche blockchain and stored in their Really account. Really also announced it is expanding its digital collectible movie experiences to partners in Japan, Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

Fans can earn Fandime tokens by going to movie theatres and events, buying merchandise and interacting with Really’s AR experiences including scavenger hunts, a “Pop-a-Corn” game and weekly trivia. They can also buy Fandime tokens directly on the Fandime app, available on iOS and Android devices.

According to the company, Fandime tokens can be redeemed for various benefits including digital rewards, movie-related AR content, exclusive opportunities, “AR trophies and wearable face filters.”

Commenting on the announcement, Really AR founder and CEO James Andrew Felts told TechCrunch that he thinks combining AR and blockchain technology puts his company “ahead of the game.”

“Specifically, Augmented Reality brings an entirely new user interface to our interactions with digital. As we transition from 2D screens like smartphones and desktop computers to 3D screens like headsets and holograms, our interactions with the digital world will become more tactile and more personal. Blockchain unlocks the ability for a digital file to be truly yours, in the same way a physical object or item is in the real world. In many ways, the intersection of Web3 and AR will make our digital world more human and more familiar,” said Felts.

The company’s plans for next year include adding more ways to earn Fandime tokens and redeeming rewards, including “[being] able to purchase movie tickets and merchandise via their Really account, receive discounts and collect Fandime tokens when watching content at home.”
