Pantera Capital has invested $10 million in the interoperable massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) maker Worldwide Webb. The company said it will use the funds to hire more staff, integrate more non-fungible token (NFT) collections and get into partnerships with brands and intellectual property holders.

Worldwide Webb was launched in 2020 by Thomas Webb. The interoperable avatar game allows players to bring their own NFTs from multiple blockchains to the gameplay. They can use the NFTs as avatars to engage in quests, battles and raids.

The Ethereum-based NFT game also allows players to acquire digital plots of land offered as NFTs. Players can gain access to higher levels in the game by winning battles. The company is also on course to launch its browser-based player-vs-player game Blockbusterz.

Commenting on his company’s investment in Worldwide Webb, Pantera investment associate Sehaj Singh said: “Worldwide Webb bridges the gap between traditional gaming and NFT communities via an ever-expanding catalogue of browser-based mini-games, where every player can leverage a unique identity (in the form of an NFT.”

“Not only has Webb’s rapid-iteration on game development led to fun and engaging mini-games, but the Worldwide Webb platform has provided yet another channel for NFT communities to enhance engagement and community building,” added Singh, according to a press release on Thursday.

On the other hand, in an e-mail to CoinDesk, Worldwide Webb founder and CEO Thomas Webb commented: “We’re building tools to allow them to bring their IP into the game. This is through [Worldwide Webb Land] where they can build spaces, integrate their existing NFTs and build new ones into the Webb ecosystem.”

According to Webb, his company is not only looking to integrate NFTs into its metaverse ecosystem but also “bring their IP into the Webb universe” where players can use them in quotes, boss fights and other items.
