Aptos Labs and Universal Pictures have teamed up to create an immersive fan experience for the 2023 ‘Exorcist: Believer’ film. Built on the Aptos blockchain, the experience will allow fans to not only watch the film but also to come as close as joining as a virtual cast member.

The film is the next chapter in the 1973 horror classic Exorcist and is set to premiere in theatres on October 6.

According to the announcement on Thursday, the web3 experience will also allow fans to enter to win a variety of Exorcist: Believer-themed prizes.

The film comes from the world of Blumhouse, one of the renowned horror film production companies alongside Morgan Creek Entertainment and Halloween franchise director David Gordon Green.

Some of the exciting experiences that fans can look forward to participating in include horrific and fun filters, digital art, incorporation of movie plot points and real-world prizes, Aptos said in a press release shared with NFTgators.

The companies have teamed up with ticketing company Fandango where fans will be able to buy tickets beginning today. Upon purchasing the tickets, they will receive a redemption code that will provide them access to the digital experience, where they will be able to collect exclusive artwork, see behind-the-scenes footage, and use the AR filter to their liking.

Commenting on the announcement, Greg Reed, Vice President of Technology Partnerships at Universal Pictures highlighted the partnership is part of his company’s ultimate goal of crafting interconnected digital experiences with Web3.

“If we plan to create digital collectibles for every movie ticket or product we sell, or for every immersive fan experience, like The Exorcist: Believer, that we deliver, we need technology that can handle that scale. Aptos is built to handle the volume and performance to truly, and reliably, change how fans experience movies,” Reed said.

Mo Shaikh, co-founder & CEO of Aptos Labs commented: “With this particular project, we have the benefit of working with exceptional partners to build on top of Aptos, the only enterprise-grade layer1 blockchain that can handle a global volume of immersion and gore required to wow millions of Exorcist: Believer fans.”
