Belgium-based laptop screen extension startup, Portabl, today announced that it is hiring for full-time positions in the metaverse. It also claims to be the first startup to do so.

The startup aims to match its metaverse-based employment to the virtual experiences employees have had as consumers However, it didn’t mention the specifics of what its work-based metaverse would be like or when it would be launched.

“We are already living in a world that is becoming more and more virtual. Letters have become emails, stores have become e-shops, we’ve deserted travel agencies and book our flights from our couch, and we evaluate people based on their social network profiles before offering them a job interview or dating them. That’s without even mentioning the mass adoption of Cryptocurrency”, said Portabl co-founder Charlee Jeunehomme.

According to a press release, the company’s ideal applicant is a “natural-born commercial crypto enthusiast overflowing with creativity that loves customer contact and dreams of being a pioneer in new areas.”

The startup’s full-time positions in the metaverse guarantee an average of 40 hours a week and appear to be customer-facing roles. In the cross-functional role, the candidate will be promoting the benefits of Portabl’s product line and be responsible for running commercial tests, and reporting their experiences to the management.

While the pandemic has drastically changed people’s work habits by shifting from physical work meetings to Zoom calls and working from home, many have also begun returning to the office with the lifting of Covid restrictions.

However, Portabl believes that the virtual job market is the next big revolution that everyone would have to adapt to. The startup also believes that it will see people working in virtual working environments in the future, allowing even those who live in the most isolated places to be part of a community or a group without having to physically move.

Whether the metaverse job position is a gimmick for the company to promote its product or a legitimate paid role remains to be seen.

Portabl made its debut during the CES in Las Vegas in January 2022. The company claims to have pre-sold over 10 million dollars’ worth of their triple screens before the first product was even delivered.
