American news magazine, TIME, today announced that it has partnered with The Sandbox to develop “TIME Square”, its first-ever destination in the metaverse. TIME has acquired land in The Sandbox, on which TIME Square will be built.
Inspired by the visual spirit and energy of the iconic neighbourhood in New York City, TIME Square will serve as a destination for convening, art and commerce curated by TIME’s NFT community, TIMEPieces. The partnership was revealed by TIME President Keith A. Grossman during The Sandbox’s event at NFT NYC.
Grossman also issued an open call for architects to design TIME Square in The Sandbox, reimagining the world-renowned cultural center for the metaverse. For this undertaking, TIMEPieces is turning to its vibrant community and metaverse enthusiasts worldwide to identify a visionary architect to recreate and reimagine the destination as a voxel creation.
“Our goal is to create a destination that will be the heart of the metaverse. Since launching TIMEPieces in September 2021, we have focused on developing a community in Web3 that benefited from the incredible 100- year legacy and access TIME has established,” said Keith A. Grossman, TIME President.
“We are thrilled to now tap into that community as we seek to find the architect to design TIME Square in the metaverse, as we create an immersive experience with The Sandbox that provides a natural bridge between the virtual community of TIMEPieces, the historical coverage and global relationships of TIME, the unique IP coming from TIME Studios, TIME for Kids, and our real-lifeIRL events,” he added.
TIME Square will be an inclusive environment that will serve the TIMEPieces community by providing virtual access to discussions, events, screenings of TIME Studios projects and educational experiences.

The Sandbox has been securing high-profile partnerships with major media companies of late. Last week, it partnered with Lionsgate to create a film-themed destination in the metaverse.
In other news, the floor price of The Sandbox had a sudden spike from 1.5 ETH to 7 ETH in one day, according to data from SeaLaunch on Dune Analytics. The reason for that is currently unclear.
