The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team in collaboration with FTX has announced a series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for the 2022 formula one season, created to improve fan engagement.

The team and FTX will release 2,500 free-to-claim NFT “Ticket Stubs” – artistic interpretations of a Mercedes-AMG Petronas race ticket, and a further 1,000 limited edition NFT Ticket Stubs at up to five races throughout the season starting in Miami.

The NFTs are created by some of the world’s top digital creators and will be released at some point before the end of the current F1 season. The company has invited artists to create race-inspired artwork which fans can collect, trade and own.

Fans will be able to collect and build their own NFT “Ticket Stub” collection throughout the season, thus providing them with even more ways to engage with each other. They will also be able to build a new community of collectors and traders that share a passion for racing and digital art.

The Mercedes F1 Team also plans to unveil several unique NFTs during the Miami event, which are produced in collaboration with multi-disciplinary artist Mad Dog Jones.

According to the announcements, two special NFTs will feature the 2022 Miami cars raced by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. The team also plans to auction the two rear wing end-plates together with their corresponding Mad Dog NFTs fresh off the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 in Miami.

Richard Sanders, Commercial Director of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team said the new series of NFTs is part of the team’s initiative to establish new ways of engaging with the global fan.

“Collecting memorabilia has always been a huge part of following your favourite sports team and we’re excited to create these genuinely cool digital collectibles that will also unlock new ways for fans to be closer to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team,” Sanders said.

On the other hand, Avi Dabir, Vice President of Business Development, FTX lauded the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team’s efforts for innovating and pushing the limits in their sport, adding that the NFT project is a testament to that commitment.

“FTX is excited to collaborate with the team on this auction connecting unique NFT artwork with a key component of Lewis’ and George’s Miami cars in a first for the team and sport,” Dabir said.

The Mad Dog Jones NFTs will be available on FTX US’ NFT marketplace from May 6, 2022.
