Quick take:

  • Tezos Blockchain is about to be unveiled as Manchester United’s training kit sponsor.
  • The global sporting giant has agreed to a long-term deal worth £20M per year.
  • Tezos is expanding its sports sponsorship empire after bagging RedBull Racing and McLaren Racing last year.

Tezos is set to be announced as a Manchester United sponsor in a multi-year deal worth £20 million per year. The proof-of-stake blockchain ecosystem is expanding its sports sponsorship empire that also includes deals with RedBull Racing and McLaren racing, announced last year.

Sports media platform The Athletic reported on Thursday saying Manchester United had already shot promotional materials for the announcement at its Carrington training complex.

The giant football (soccer) company had an 8-year deal worth £120 million (£15M per year) with US insurance company Aon, which included at the end of last season.

In May last year, Tezos inked a deal with global motorsport franchise, RedBull Racing becoming its official blockchain partner. The partnership culminated with Tezos building its first non-fungible token (NFT) fan experience in November.

In June, RedBull’s F1 rival McLaren Racing linked up with Tezos making the blockchain company its official technical partner in a multi-year deal across its F1, Indycar and esports teams.

The motorsport franchise used Tezos’ proof-of-stake ecosystem to launch the first MacLaren NFT collection last October.

Although details about the partnership are yet to be revealed, Thea Athletic wrote that Tezos’ partnership with Manchester United may involve Web3 projects like the metaverse.

Manchester United’s current shirt sponsor Team Viewer was selected on the basis of using the software company’s technology to improve the sporting giant’s engagement with fans.

Therefore, after Tezos’ launched NFT projects with renowned sports companies, there are expectations that Manchester United could follow by collaborating with the blockchain company in Web3 projects.

This won’t be the first time NFTs have been mentioned alongside the English league. The English Premier League (EPL) revealed last November it was considering taking a cautious approach to bringing NFTs to the league.

Several Soccer teams have already launched non-fungible tokens on the Socios platform, where their fans can purchase NFTs to receive prizes, vote on minor club decisions or access special experiences.

Therefore, with Manchester United massive fan base, Tezos could be about to get into one of its largest partnerships ever, bringing NFTs and metaverse experiences to Man Utd fans.
