Square Enix and Animoca’s The Sandbox Ink Deal to Bring ‘Dungeon Siege’ to the Metaverse

Japanese game developer and entertainment giant Square Enix has partnered with Animoca Brands’ The Sandbox to bring the ‘Dungeon Siege’ game to the metaverse.

Japanese video game developer Square Enix has signed an agreement with Animoca Brands’ The Sandbox to bring its popular game “Dungeon Siege” to the metaverse.

The deal is structured into two parts. The first part will see The Sandbox deliver a ‘Dungeon Siege’ token LAND on Square Enix’s estate allowing players to enjoy interactive RPG experiences whilst learning the best practices for creating their own unique Dungeon Siege adventures.

The second part of the deal involves allowing the creation of Dungeon Siege Voxel characters using The Sandbox’s free VoxelEdit and GameMaker creation tools that require no coding experience.

The Sandbox has released a trailer on YouTube showcasing how the Dungeon Siege game will appear on Voxel.

The award-winning RPG game takes place in the kingdom of Ehb. The series has sold over 1.7 million copies, in the process yielding multiple sequels. 

Speaking following the announcement of the partnership, Hideaki Uehara, Director of Business Development of Square Enix said “Dungeon Siege has always been about inspiring adventure and entering The Sandbox metaverse to empower players to craft their own personal adventures opens an exciting new chapter for the franchise.”

On the other hand, Sebastien Borget, COO and Co-Founder of The Sandbox said the Dungeon Siege IP is perfect for its RPG gaming unit, which has grown to become one of the most important for the metaverse platform.

“Through the Dungeon Siege experience on Square Enix’s estate, players will be able to undertake a curated adventure that will help prepare them to create their own original quests inspired by the classic games, carrying forward the franchise’s legacy,” he said.

Bertrand Levy, VP Global Partnerships of The Sandbox said he was excited to bring Dungeon Siege’s characters, items, and props from Square Enix’s fantasy world to the hands of gamers and creators in The Sandbox’s metaverse.

The Sandbox is one of Animoca Brands’ largest GameFi and metaverse investments with a market cap of about $3.38 billion, based on the valuation of the SAND token. Besides metaverse gaming, the platform also offers digital land to corporations and virtual real estate investors.
