OneFootball Raises $300M in Series D, Teams With Animoca Brands to Bring Football to Web3

Leading football media company OneFootball has completed a $300M Series D round led by Liberty City Ventures and backed by Animoca Brands and others.

OneFootball, the company behind the popular football media application OneFootball App has completed a $300 million Series D round led by Libert City Ventures. 

The company also announced OneFootball Labs, a joint partnership with Animoca Brands and Liberty City Ventures created to onboard football clubs, leagues, federations and players to the new age of Web3. The new venture will enable the football community to release digital assets and fan-centric experiences based on blockchain technology.

According to the announcement, Yat Siu, the co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands will join the boards of both OneFootball and OneFootball Labs.

OneFootball’s $300 million raise was also backed by Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, DAH Beteiligungs GmbH, Quiet Capital, RIT Capital Partners, Senator Investment Group, and Alsara Investment Group.

OneFootball boasts an audience of more than 100 million monthly active users. The platform is used by clubs, leagues, and football fans around the world to deliver competition and player insights. 

It offers football content across multiple verticals including free and pay-per-view live streamed football matches, culminating in “more than 15,000 live streams and on-demand content clips in 2021 alone.”

OneFootball Labs will be taking the football fan experience to a new level by introducing a variety of Web3 fan experiences. Its partnership with Animoca Brands adds extensive experience in blockchain, NFTs, gaming and the metaverse will be crucial to realising OneFootball Labs’ Web3 goals.

Commenting on the partnership, Siu said “Over the last year, the sporting universe has made progress in harnessing the potential of NFTs and blockchain gaming, offering fans new digital experiences based on the important principles of true digital ownership and decentralization.”

The Animoca Brands executive chairman said bringing Web3 to the world’s most popular sport in a joint venture with OneFootball is a match made in heaven.

Lucas von Cranach, founder and CEO of OneFootball commented: “We believe the future of football away from the stands and off the pitch will be decentralised and built on Web3, giving back the ownership of data and digital assets to the fans.”

Cranach said OneFootball and OneFootball Labs will bring football fans closer to the game by providing them with a tangible way to gain ownership of the game.

Murtaza Akbar, managing partner at Liberty City Ventures said OneFootball’s monthly active user-base of more than 100 million is a great opportunity to onboard masses to Web3, rolling out the benefits of blockchain technology to football fans.
