National Lampoon has launched its web3 campaign. The company announced its foray into the burgeoning industry with its first web3 studio on Tuesday. National Lampoon also launched the Poison Pill NFT, which will debut on October 26.

The company started off as a spinoff of Harvard Lampoon magazine 50 years ago, before expanding to other segments of the entertainment industry with films, radio, live theatre, and more.

Over the past year, National Lampoon started exploring opportunities in the rapidly growing web3 market amid the influx of mainstream companies.

Web3 is generally described as a next-generation version of the internet that leverages emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality devices, blockchain technology and decentralised applications to create interactive solutions that promote community-based ownership.

Commenting on the company’s entry into web3, Raj Singh on behalf of National Lampoon said: “Over the last year we have been deliberate in formalizing an initial approach to Web3, given the rapid evolution in the market. NL NFT is a Web3 destination focused on the intersection of artists, audience, comedic entertainment, digital assets, experiences, and IP rights enabled by blockchain innovation.”

The company is looking to tap into the creator-driven approach provided by web3  in collaboration with to originate and manage partnerships across both literary and performing comedic talent.

National Lampoon said it has already sealed several partnerships that will be announced ahead of the Poison Pill launch in October to add to the already announced collaborations with Monax Labs and Non-Fungible Films.

The company will leverage the expertise offered by a highly experienced board of advisers, which includes Jimmy McNelis (aka j1mmy.eth and Founder of nft42), Jeremy Drane—  Co-Founder of both Monax Labs and Nifty’s, Cameron Moulène of Non-Fungible Films, and Project Venkman’s Gavin Gillas.
