  • The game is scheduled for release this summer and will give MLB fans an opportunity to express their passion through gaming.
  • Sorare is expanding its NFT-gaming in the US beyond Soccer, with the introduction of the MLB game.

The Major League Baseball (MLP) Players Inc. has collaborated with its partner Sorare to launch the first-ever non-fungible token (NFT)-based MLB free-to-play game scheduled for release this summer.

Sorare is the official NFT Baseball Game Partner of MLB. The organisation is creating an avenue for MLB fans to celebrate, share and own their MLB passion through gaming. The MLB NFT gaming category expands Sorare’s gaming ecosystem in the US, following the launch of its MLS free-to-play game in March 2022.

Commenting on his company’s latest collaboration in NFT-gaming, Nicolas Julia, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Sorare said: “The connection between Americans and baseball is enduring. And baseball has always been on the cutting edge of new technologies and innovations, so we’re proud that MLB and the MLBPA have chosen Sorare to deliver an NFT MLB Game to fans globally.”

Julia pointed out MLB’s presence in interactive gaming over the years as one of the reasons behind Sorare’s decision. Baseball Card collectibles pre-date the trendy NFTs, which makes the idea even more interesting.

“While baseball has some of the oldest and most established forms of sports memorabilia. Together they show how much fans want to own and be a part of the game. Today, as digital engagement and technology evolves for a new generation, our partnership will help a new and broader fanbase to connect with America’s pastime,” Julia added.

The Sorare-MLB game’s main purpose is to give fans an opportunity to create a team of NFT-based characters representing Major League Players and connect with athletes.

Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr said Soarare understands the important connection between MLB and fans of the game.

“The company’s focus on transforming fandom through an innovative combination of sports, technology and gaming to let fans truly own a piece of the game they love is unique and goes beyond borders – allowing us to bring the love of baseball to more fans across the globe,” he added.

Tony Clark, Executive Director, Major League Baseball Players Association echoed those remarks saying “Sorare has built a new baseball gaming experience that will excite fans around collecting Players’ NFTs, building winning lineups and competing against baseball fans all over the world.”
