Miley Cyrus and Men’s Wearhouse are protecting their copyright in the metaverse with new Web3 trademark filings, a series of tweets by patent lawyer, Mike Kondoudis, revealed.
Miley Cyrus filed trademarks for her name Miley and Miley Cyrus, with plans to offer the following:
- Downloadable virtual goods, namely, computer programs and digital images comprising virtual art images, clothing, jewelry, headwear, eyewear, footwear, bags, sports equipment, toys, video game equipment, characters, badges, stickers, tokens, emojis and accessories for use online, in video games, and in online virtual worlds.
- Downloadable computer software for managing virtual goods, virtual currency, and digital assets.
- Online, non-downloadable virtual goods, comprising virtual art images, clothing, jewelry, headwear, eyewear, footwear, bags, sports equipment, weapons, toys, video game equipment, characters, badges, stickers, tokens, emojis and accessories for use online, in online games, and in online virtual worlds.
- Virtual art images, clothing, jewelry, headwear, eyewear, footwear, bags, sports equipment, weapons, toys, video game equipment, characters, badges, stickers, tokens, emojis and accessories for use in online games, and in online virtual worlds.
If Miley Cyrus’s plans to offer virtual products and services come to fruition, it would be her first independent foray into the metaverse. The pop star previously made her metaverse appearance as an avatar in Gucci Town on Roblox, as she is the face of Gucci Beauty’s new Flora Gorgeous Jasmine campaign.
On a related note, Men’s Wearhouse has filed four trademark applications for the brand name, its subbrand, Jos A. Bank, as well as the Men’s Wearhouse icon and logo.
The menswear retailer plans to offer digital wearables such as sweaters, suits, pants, sportswear, woven shirts, knit shirts, knit sweaters, casual pants, cotton slacks, sport jackets, shirts, shorts, vests, cummerbunds, suspenders, shoes, socks, raincoats and topcoats, rainwear, jackets, ties, belts, T-shirts, bags, headwear, and accessories for use online in online virtual worlds.
According to the trademark application, these digital wearables will be authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Men’s Wearhouse also has plans to open an online retail store featuring the abovementioned digital wearables and online rental of clothing; rental of formal wear; and tuxedo rental for use in online virtual worlds.
Miley Cyrus filed her trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on Aug 16 while Men’s Wearhouse filed theirs on Aug 17.
