Quick take:

  • Echo3D is a cloud platform that provides the infrastructure to help developers build and deploy 3D games, apps, and content.
  • The startup previously raised $4 million six months ago.
  • Developers using Echo3D have built cloud-connected games, AR advertisement campaigns, and NFT marketplaces.

Israeli startup, echo3D, today announced that it has raised $5.5 million in a funding round led by Qualcomm Ventures, with participation from Remagine Ventures, Konvoy Ventures, and Space Capital.

The fresh funding comes just six months after the startup raised $4 million back in October 2021 and shortly after Qualcomm’s previously announced $100 million Snapdragon Metaverse Fund that targets companies building technology for XR, AR, and AI.

Funds will be used to grow echo3D’s team of developers and marketers, as well as expand its relations with developers.

Founded in 2018 by Ben Pedazur, Alon Grinshpoon, and his twin brother Koren Grinshpoon, echo3D is a cloud storage and content management platform for 3D, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). It also provides tools and network infrastructure to help developers quickly build and deploy 3D games, apps, and content.

With its tools, the startup aims to reduce the file size and speed up the development of 3D objects on websites and apps, and become the go-to cloud solution for 3D and metaverse apps.

“It’s a cloud solution that provides tools and network infrastructure for developers and companies who want to build games in the VR experiences, and kind of any metaverse app,” Alon Grinshpoon, echo3D CEO, explained to VentureBeat. “We handle all the storage and conversion, compression and streaming. Others focus on the graphics or the avatars or whatever. And we actually focus on the invisible stuff, the server setup, conversion, compression, bandwidth, optimization, distributing assets all over the world, on all these different servers.”

echo3D’s cross-platform cloud solution stores, manages, and streams 3D content to mobile devices, browsers, game engineers, and smart camera devices. The company also converts, compresses, and optimizes 3D models, animations, and interactive content, and streams them to any smartphone, headset, or browser.

Developers using echo3D have built cloud-connected games, AR advertisement campaigns, NFT marketplaces, and more. To cover its AR bases, echo3D is now integrated with Snapdragon Spaces software development kit (SDK), as well as Niantic Lightship and 8th Wall.

As a verified solutions partner of the Unity game engine, echo3D’s content management system (CMS) and delivery network (CDN) have enabled developers to build their app backend in minutes and for clients to publish content to 3D games and apps without involving development teams.

“3D content usage is skyrocketing, but the infrastructure to create, serve and track 3D content has yet to catch up. There are big opportunities around building an infrastructure layer for the future internet. This is why Remagine Ventures is excited to continue supporting echo3D’s mission to build the cross-platform CMS and CDN  for 3D content,” said Eze Vidra, Managing Partner at Remagine Ventures.
