Korea’s layer-1 blockchain, Klaytn, has announced that its chief investment officer Vince Kim will take over the reins as head of global group, following the departure of predecessor, David Shin.

Shin stepped down from his role as Klaytn’s head of global group after 1.5 years with the company. He announced his departure from the company on Thursday. As an entrepreneur and an ex-banker, he has been involved in several startups around the world.

He left the traditional finance industry in 2019 to join Bitcoin.com to lead its new exchange. In 2020, as an Advisor to the Tezos Foundation, he decided to join full-time as the head of TZ APAC, an adoption entity supported by the Tezos Foundation.

In 2021, he left Tezos to head the Klaytn global adoption efforts at Kakao, focusing on building the adoption and utility of the Klaytn blockchain across developer, retail and enterprise groups. Shin has yet to reveal his next move following his departure from Klaytn.

“It’s been an honor to lead Klaytn’s globalization journey over the past 1.5 years, and I’m glad to see Klaytn being viewed as a global player in the Layer 1 landscape. Klaytn holds a special place in my heart and I’m happy to continue contributing to the growth of Klaytn’s ecosystem,” Shin said.

According to Klaytn, Shin has assembled a high-performing team to build the foundations of Klaytn’s global expansion strategy since joining the company in 2021. He was responsible for pivoting Klaytn’s growth strategy to focus on gaming and the metaverse.

“With his experience and dedication, David has been instrumental in expanding Klaytn’s international footprint. We are grateful for his many contributions over the past 1.5 years, and we wish him only the best for his future endeavors,” said Klaytn’s new global group head, Vince Kim.
