HyperPlay has announced a $12 million funding round led by Griffin Gaming Partners and BITKRAFT Ventures. The Series A round was joined by ConsenSys, Ethereal Ventures, Delphi,  Game7, Mirana Ventures, and Monoceros Ventures, among others.

HyperPlay is a joint project launched last November by the leading self-custody web3 wallet MetaMask and Web3 gaming studio Game7. The project is building a wallet overlay that will allow all web3 games to be interoperable, allowing players to carry their MetaMask wallets across different gaming platforms.

Commenting on the announcement, Pierre Planche, Partner at Griffin Gaming Partners said: “HyperPlay ensures there is a home for games that is open and developer-friendly, encouraging technical innovation in games and accruing more value to developers versus traditional constructs. The platform will enable a better overarching user-experience for gamers across all games, thanks to a persistent data layer for discovery, assets, profiles, achievements and more. Jacob is a core contributor to MetaMask’s success, and we are excited about HyperPlay’s close partnership with the MetaMask team and Game7.”

HyperPlay is trying to address one of the biggest challenges for web3 games. While the idea to play-and-earn has been exciting enough to attract huge communities, the inability to carry gaming assets across games has hampered growth.

This fundraising indicates how important interoperability is for web3 gaming to reach the next level.

According to Malte Barth, Partner at BITKRAFT Ventures, “Giving game developers the freedom to deploy on any chain they choose, while allowing players to carry their wallet, NFTs, tokens, and achievements into every game. This sets them apart from others in the space, while the launcher offers unique usability and convenience for users. We can see a world where HyperPlay branches over into mobile platforms and web2 games.”

On the other hand, Ezgi Cengiz, Senior Product Manager at MetaMask thinks HyperPlay has the ability to disrupt not only the web3 gaming ecosystem but also the web2 gaming industry.

JacobC.eth, Founder of HyperPlay said his company will use the fresh funding to revamp its product and expand globally. “Since announcing HyperPlay in November of last year, we’ve been focused on building a platform that empowers both developers and users to effortlessly navigate the Web3 gaming realm.”
