Quick take:
- The platform focuses on connecting celebrities and fans.
- Fans can earn TOKAU tokens as they explore and play on MetaCity.
- MetaCity landowners can attend virtual public events hosted by celebrities.
Japan-based blockchain company, TOKAU, has launched a metaverse platform called MetaCity, focusing on connecting celebrities with their fans. The 3D virtual platform runs on a SocialFi (social-to-earn) ecosystem where users can earn TOKAU tokens as they explore and play.
To begin their journey on MetaCity, users have to purchase a Mystery Box which contains one customisable NFT land. Landowners can then decorate their virtual spaces by adding new items and changing their designs. Those who want to relocate can also trade their virtual land with other users on MetaCity’s marketplace.
While MetaCity sounds similar to other metaverse platforms like The Sandbox and Decentraland, which also have celebrity partners and landowners, what sets it apart from its counterparts is the focus on bringing fans closer to celebrities on the platform.
MetaCity is collaborating with celebrities and big names across a wide range of industries, including music, entertainment and fashion. These include actor Ian Somerhalder of The Vampire Diaries fame, rapper and NFT enthusiast Snoop Dogg, and record producer Russell Simons, just to name a few.
No matter which areas of the platform users are located, they can interact with MetaCity’s celebrity collaborators via text, audio and, in future, VR. Those who want to be neighbours with celebrities who also own virtual land can pay a premium.
Each celebrity can have as many neighbours as the number of NFTs issued per plot of land, but all MetaCity landowners can attend virtual public events hosted by celebrities. Celebrities can also host private events for select residents.
MetaCity has a total of 150,000 plots of land. A Land NFT whitelist pre-sale and public offering of 10,000 Lands NFTs will take place in Q2 this year while real-time text and voice interaction, as well as virtual live broadcast social functions, will be available in Q4.
The platform will roll out avatar customisation features and its NFT marketplace in Q2 2023 and VR support in Q3 2023.
MetaCity has plans to hand over governance to a DAO made up of its users. The DAO’s smart contract will allow any user’s actions to be publicly audited.
“We envision a future where MetaCity is open source and powered by a diverse community of users from all over the world,” said David Lin, MetaCity’s product manager.
