- Gamestop has officially launched its gaming NFT marketplace with Immutable X.
- The platform will feature NFTs from leading web3 games including Gods Unchained, Illuvium, and Guild of Guardians.
- GameStop and Immutable’s partnership dates back months after initially announcing a $100 million joint grants program for creators.
GameStop has officially launched its carbon-neutral gaming NFT marketplace with Immutable X. The two companies are extending a partnership, first announced earlier this year.
Users will be able to buy and sell NFTs 100% gas-free, featuring items like trading cards and virtual land plots from some of the leading Immutable-based blockchain games like Gods Unchained, Illuvium, and Guild of Guardians.
This is not the first time GameStop and Immutable are collaborating on a web3-related project. Earlier this year, the two companies teamed up in a $100 million joint grant program for web3 creators.
Gamestop first announced the gaming NFT marketplace in July, in a move seen as mutually beneficial. GameStop’s traditional games and accessories retail business has experienced a downturn since the turn of the year, prompting the company to explore other revenue opportunities.
In June, the company said web3 will play a crucial role in its growth as it continues to shift focus on emerging opportunities in the gaming space after reporting a $160 million loss for the first quarter of 2022.
On the other hand, Immutable needed GameStop’s links to the mainstream gaming industry to try to ramp up its user base. The Layer 2 Ethereum scaling solution is competing with the likes of Arbitrum and Polygon on the leading dApps network.
Commenting on his company’s partnership with GameStop, Robbie Ferguson, president and co-founder of ImmutableX said: “Our partnership with GameStop is an important step forward as Immutable brings the next billion players to web3 gaming. Today’s launch of the GameStop NFT Marketplace means that we can now provide access to millions of additional NFTs, more of the top web3 games being developed today while maintaining a best-in-class experience for players.”
GameStop’s list of web3 partners grew further in September after it announced a collaboration with FTX to help onboard masses to web3. The company’s NFT marketplace also teamed up with Loopring in March in an effort to build its gaming NFT marketplace.
