MoonPay has appointed Asiff Hirji as its new President. The leading web3 infrastructure company announced the appointment on Wednesday to spearhead its push into the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) market.

Hirji will start his new role effective immediately. The fintech industry veteran brings a wealth of experience after serving as President and COO of crypto exchange company Coinbase Global from 2017 until 2019. Hirji also had stints at leading web3 venture capital firm A16z, TPG Capital, brokerage and financial management service provider TD Ameritrade, and management and consulting company Bain & Co, among others.

He currently serves on the board of Forge Global and is a former public board member of Advent Software and Citrix Systems Inc. Hirji also served on the boards of investment banking company Saxo Bank, TES Global, RentPath, and Eze Software.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of MoonPay hiring Lindsey Haswell as its new Chief Legal Officer.

Commenting on his appointment, Hirji said he has been keeping a keen eye on MoonPay’s development since 2019, expressing his excitement to be joining the team.

“MoonPay is competitively positioned to push forward mainstream Web3 adoption, and I’m looking forward to bringing my expertise and insights to their leadership team to further advance the company’s mission.”

MoonPay has been teaming up with leading NFT marketplaces as part of its campaign of advancing its web3 strategy.

Recently, MoonPay announced a partnership with multi-chain NFT marketplace Magic Eden, in a deal that will allow users to buy Ethereum and Polygon NFTs using credit cards. The announcement also came a day after revealing its partnership with community-focused NFT platform LooksRare.

Last year, MoonPay also signed deals with OpenSea— the world’s largest NFT marketplace based on the number of registered users and collections to integrate debit and credit card payments into OpenSea’s platform.

Hirji’s leadership at the board level will be crucial in overseeing Moonpay’s expansion having served as “Chairman of the Board, Chair of the Operating Committee of the Board, Chair of the Compensation Committee, and Member of the Finance and Audit Committees.”

According to the announcement, he also led companies at times of transition and changes in business models.

“Our mission has always been rooted in onboarding the world to Web3, and with recent hires like that of Asiff Hirji, we feel more confident than ever that we are getting closer to that goal,” said Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO & Co-Founder of MoonPay. “We’re on the precipice of an array of opportunities here at MoonPay, and we see enormous potential for our growing leadership team to further help us break down barriers in this evolving industry.”
