Forbes has become the latest media giant to join the metaverse craze after announcing a Virtual Billionaires NFT Collection to be launched on FTX. The leading global media publisher’s debut non-fungible token (NFT) collection is composed of fictional investors with huge portfolios based on live New York Stock Exchange prices.

The initial drop will have 100 Virtual Billionaire NFTs and will debut on April 13 on the FTX US NFT marketplace. Each portfolio has randomly selected ETFs and other NYSE securities based on real-time data.

Forbes subscribers will have early access to the ERC-721 tokens on April 11. Once the initial drop sells out, more NFT collectors and traders will be able to participate in the auction by looking for Forbes Virtual NFT Billionaires for sale on any ERC-721 Marketplace.

The Forbes Virtual NFT Billionaires will have unique profile pages featuring custom-illustrated headshots by Goodog and ItsACat, a group of 2D and 3D illustrators and animators based in Barcelona. Owners of the collection will also have their wallets listed under the name of the billionaire that they own on Forbes’ official ranking page.

Commenting on his company’s partnership with Forbes to launch the NFT collection, Tristan Yver, Head of Strategy at FTX US said “We are excited to partner with Forbes on their first NFT sale and will continue to encourage innovation and entry into the digital asset community.”

Vadim Supitskiy, Chief Technology Officer, Forbes said the Virtual Billionaires NFT collection marks an important step in Forbes’ Web3 journey. Supitskiy commented on last year’s events, which saw the company turn a Forbes cover into an NFT, which showed that Journalism can be as immutable as a one-of-a-kind artwork.

“Now, we’re cementing our place in the Metaverse by launching these interactive collectibles that can be authenticated and traded on the blockchain.”

The company held the inaugural Digital Assets and Web3 Summit on March 16, 2022, helping to shape the conversation around the rapidly growing technology space.

The summit includes some of the top leaders in the industry, featuring Sam Bankman-Fried, Founder and CEO of FTX, and Kathleen Breitman, Co-Founder of Tezos – to discuss the future of digital assets and Web3.
