Animoca Brands today announced the appointment of Jared Shaw as the company’s new CFO. Shaw was most recently the head of finance at cryptocurrency and NFT platform, Gemini.
In his new role, Shaw will oversee and support the strategic financial direction of Animoca Brands and its more than 380 portfolio companies.
He brings over 20 years of experience across the traditional finance, fintech, and cryptocurrency sectors. Prior to Gemini, Jared was a financial services and fintech consultant at Ernst & Young, where he was one of the founding members of EY’s fintech consulting division. He also worked at Goldman Sachs in fixed income portfolio management and at Prudential Financial as an internal auditor. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Apart from Jared Shaw, Animoca also announced other senior appointments. The company has hired May Szeto, a senior HR exec with 20 years of APAC regional experience in the real estate industry and financial institutions. She will develop and lead Animoca’s group HR functions, driving people strategy and transformation efforts.
Prior to joining Animoca Brands, Szeto spent seven years at Grosvenor Property where she was the head of HR for Asia. Before joining Grosvenor, May worked for J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, Nomura Securities, MGPA (now part of Blackrock) and Bloomberg L.P. in various regional senior HR roles.
Animoca has also appointed Jamii Quoc as head of legal – commercial and M&A, where she will be responsible for managing the legal team and advising on commercial and investment transactions for the group. She has 20 years of legal experience as a M&A/PE lawyer from both private practice and in-house.
With over 10 years of experience in corporate finance, Samuel Tse has been appointed to the role of M&A director, where he will be responsible for driving the company’s strategic investment, M&A, and joint venture efforts. Prior to joining Animoca Brands, Tse spent more than 4 years at Ant Group, where he led the execution of various corporate investment, joint venture and strategic partnership projects to expand Ant’s presence in international markets. Tsestarted his career in investment banking at UBS Hong Kong advising financial institutions on M&A and capital market transactions.
Last but not least, Josh Du is taking on the role of head of digital assets portfolio, where he will be responsible for managing Animoca Brands’ digital asset treasury, balance sheet optimization and yielding activities, and group market making and trading operations. He brings over 15 years of experience in the asset investment management industry across multiple asset classes including crypto, equities, and credit.
