Eminem Joins the Bored Ape Yacht Club with $470K NFT Purchase

American singer-songwriter Eminem became the latest popular figure to join the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFt project after purchasing the ape outfitted in a military-style cap and hip hop clothing. The hip hop artist last Thursday completed the acquisition of the NFT, paying 123.45 ether, approximately $470,000, as of this writing. 

The rapper adds the dazed-looking ape to his list of growing NFT acquisitions on OpenSea, bought under the name Shady_Holdings. 

The NFT was previously owned by BAYC member, GeeGazza, who was quick to thank the celebrated entertainer for purchasing it from him. Tweeting under the account @Gee_gazza, Gazza write:

Moments after Eminem updated his Twitter profile with the BAYC avatar, several replies followed, with Georgio Constantinou, artist manager of Web 3 digital agency Six saying the firm played a pivotal role in getting Eminem the NFT, now dubbed, “EminApe”. 

“Guess the cats out of the bag… @BoredApeYC, please welcome @Eminem to the metaverse! me, @JesseGrushack, and the rest of the @sixweb3 team were honored to help him secure the EminApe,” he wrote.

The Missouri-born artist is credited with popularising hip hop in the mid-western region of the US. He has won 15 Grammy Music Awards in his career, stretching back to the 1980s. In 2002 he won the Oscar Award for the Best Original Song and has also been named one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All-time by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Eminem is not the only Musician to express an interest in NFTs, his fellow American Snoop Dogg has been a dominant figure in the NFT space, launching his own NFT drop earlier last month. The West Coast rapper has also been heavily featured in the metaverse with his digital estate, dubbed the Snoopverse.

Last week, English singer-songwriter Ozzy Osbourne, also joined the metaverse with his one collection of NFTs. The former Black Sabbath heavy metal band member, nicknamed, Prince of Darkness, announced his CryptoBatz collection, named after the infamous moment he bit the head off a bat during a 1982 performance in Des Moines, Iowa.
