Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy (DCDE) has launched the ‘Future of the Digital Economy: Business in the Metaverse’ Academy. The metaverse-based training facility is designed to equip digital startups with the knowledge they need to build the metaverse.

The DCDE will select 30 startups from Dubai and other markets to join the academy.

The academy will use Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Extended reality (XR) technologies to educate startups about the dynamics of business in the metaverse.

The startups will participate in four comprehensive sessions about web3, including its history, roots and case studies assessing situations where businesses were successful and where they failed.

The sessions will educate on the value of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and how brands use them to expand their relationships with their consumers.

Commenting on the metaverse training program, Khalid Al Jarwan, Executive Director of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy said the academy is part of the Chamber’s strategy to accelerate the growth of the digital economy in the city.

The program will also attract promising digital companies in Dubai that could help raise the status of the UAE as a leading digital economy.

Dr. Jasmina Locke, CEO of the SEE Institute, said: “The creation of the metaverse has caused a major disruption to business models both within the UAE and internationally, as organizations are increasingly becoming part of the metaverse by using blockchain, NFTs, cloud technologies and more. The notion of a hybrid world is a reality, and it has triggered the transformation of our digital economy.”

The training program will run from December 4-14, and startups have until October 31 to apply.

Dubai has been one of the leading early adopters of web3. The city has already made giant steps in the metaverse launching an immersive customer service system dubbed MetaHealth

The academy is seen as an advancement of the nation’s commitment to supporting the growth of the digital economy.
