NFT project Doodles revealed at NFT NYC that it has appointed American rapper Pharrell Williams as Chief Brand Officer and that it has completed its first funding round led by Alexis Ohanian’s venture capital firm, Seven Seven Six.

Williams entered the NFT space in May with the launch of a new NFT platform called the Gallery of Digital Assets (GODA). In his new role, he will help shape Doodle’s involvement in music, art, consumer products, animation, and events.

He will also serve as executive producer on a Doodles-inspired album titled Doodles Records: Volume 1. The album will be released in partnership with Columbia Records and will include “major recording artists” according to a Doodles spokesperson. The album art will feature the works of Doodles artist Scott “Burnt Toast” Martin.

The album will be available to stream but will only be sold as an NFT. According to the Doodles’ spokesperson, the NFT album will come bundled with NFT collectibles.

“I’m a big fan of the brand,” said Williams in a pre-recorded video message at NFT NYC. “We’re going to build from the core community outward and bring Doodles to new heights, new levels.”

Besides the news of Williams’ new role, Doodles has also announced that it has completed its first funding round at an undisclosed amount, led by Seven Seven Six, the venture capital firm of Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

In a pre-recorded video message shown at the event, Ohanian said that Seven Seven Six plans to scale Doodles even further. The venture capital firm’s co-founder Katelin Holloway will join Doodles’ board, along with Williams. Doodles recently announced former Billboard President Julian Holguin as CEO.

Seven Seven Six previously invested $10 million in NFT project Moonbirds’ parent company, PROOF, a Web3 media startup co-founded by venture capitalist Kevin Rose.

At the event, Doodles also announced that it will be releasing Doodles 2, a new NFT collection consisting of millions of avatars, a large increase from the 10,000 in the first collection.

Doodles 2 will feature a vast array of traits and wearable items, and will not be released on Ethereum. However, the project did not reveal which blockchain the new collection will be released on.

Launched in October 2021, Doodles has now become one of the most-coveted blue-chip NFT collections. It now sits on the 7th spot of OpenSea’s top NFTs by 7-day volume.
