Atlanta Hawks has become the latest NBA franchise to leap into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The Atlanta-based basketball team has announced the launch of 40 unique hand-drawn images of “Harry the Hawk”, the team’s official mascot.

The action for the images begins next Monday, March 14 from 10:00 AM EST and will conclude on Thursday, March 17. The collection is created in collaboration with Atlanta-based GigLabs.

Announcing the NFT Drop on Twitter, Atlanta Hawks said some NFTs include exclusive benefits only available to holders.

The collection is tiered into four different NFT types, starting from the base level NFTs where each winning bidder receives the original piece of the digital art. Some NFTs will also unlock exclusive experiences or physical items like a $500 gift card to the Hawks shop, the team’s official store at Farm Arena or a signed jersey and more.

Hawks CEO Steve Koonin said the initiative is part of the NBA team’s strategy to explore more ways of engaging with its global fanbase.

“As we launch these one-of-a-kind NFTs, we are thrilled to provide fans with opportunities and experiences that are unique and have never before been possible.”

Atlanta Hawks’ collaborator in the launch GigLabs offers white-label API technology providing a launchpad for brands looking to create NFT storefronts and marketplaces. Founded in 2017, the technology firm has helped several brands create more revenue streams by enabling them to engage with their customers in alternative ways, enhancing their intellectual property.

Hawks’ Sr. Director of Innovation and DEI Impact Jennifer Choi expressed his appreciation of working with GigLabs for its inaugural NFT collection saying, “as we prepare for the inevitable penetration of blockchain, we are excited to start providing opportunities for the next generation of Atlantans to influence our long-term strategy.”

Atlanta Hawks has also partnered with Dapper Wallet to allow fans to participate in the auction without using cryptocurrency. They will be able to purchase the NFTs from Hawks’ NBA page at https://www.nba.com/hawks/NFT.
