This is one of the most bizarre volume spikes given most of AS Roma players are not at the world cup following Italy’s failure to qualify.

Quick take:

  • The token experienced a 536% spike in sales on Monday amid reports the club is trying to end the feud between Mourinho and Karsdorf.
  • The ASR token added another 12.75% rise in sales on Tuesday for a total volume of $44.9 million.
  • Another Italian club fan token AS Lazio was a distance second with a transaction volume of $18.66 million.

AS Roma may be hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons, but its fan token is certainly not. The Italian Serié A side is engulfed in an ongoing cold war between one of their star players Rick Karsdorf and the Manager José Mourinho.

Some reports on Tuesday said the club is trying to build bridges between the two and end the debacle.

Reports that the feud could end soon appear to have boosted the fan token sales, which registered a 536% spike in transaction volume on Monday, netting nearly $33 million in sales.

This unusual spike in volume also happened following the club’s 3-3 draw in a bizarre friendly match with Japanese side Yokohama.

With the FIFA World Cup held mid-season during the European football calendar year, several clubs have scheduled friendly matches to try and keep their teams match-fit ahead of the resumption of their seasons in December or in January 2023.

With Italy missing out on the 2022 world cup, AS Roma had nearly a full squad for the friendly.

Earlier in the Qatar World Cup, Argentina’s fan token price plummeted following the National Team’s defeat against Saudi Arabia, while the Kingdom’s National Team fan tokens witnessed a significant increase in demand after their win.

Therefore, the evidence suggests that having a good World Cup has a positive impact on fan tokens related to the teams involved. Roma barely has any players in this year’s world cup.

The ASR token sales continued to rise on Tuesday, increasing by a further 12.75%, to reach a 24-hour volume of $44.9 million.

Another Serié A team, Lazio’s fan token was a distance second with a volume of $18.66 million, while FC Porto’s fan token, which recorded a 2-day volume of nearly $54 million over the weekend remained third with a 24-hour volume of $14.39 million.
