  • GOQii initially raised $50M in the main Serie C round.

Leading blockchain technology investment firm Animoca Brands backed GOQii’s $10 million extended Series C round, the fitness technology provider has announced.

The smart-tech-enabled healthcare platform offers a preventive healthcare ecosystem to users including a fitness tracker, coaching, health store, insurance, an app, and more.

The latest partnership boosts GOQii’s initial $50 million Series C raise by $10 million whilst also creating a collaboration with one of the leading blockchain and gamification companies in the world.

Animoca Brands completed a $359 million funding earlier this year, which it has continued to invest in new projects whilst developing new products. The Hong Kong-based venture capital firm has invested in over 170 NFT-ralated projects all focused on the creation of the open metaverse.

GOQii is looking to use Animoca’s experience in building blockchain products to leverage blockchain tokens and GameFi in preventive healthcare. The company has announced a unique virtual token program, called the Token, which will power its healthcare metaverse ecosystem.

Users of the platform will be rewarded with tokens for practising healthy behaviours. The tokens can be used to unlock various products and services, as well as, purchase NFTs and participate in gaming and events.

GOQii metaverse users will also gain access to curated and discounted health-focused goods, medical services and insurance products, the company said.

Vishal Gondal, Founder and CEO of GOQii commended Anomoca Brands’ important role in bringing Gamification and blockchain to the masses, adding that his company was excited to add the leading GameFi VC to its backers.

“This investment from Animoca Brands and the close partnership will help GOQii bring best-of-class products to consumers and further keep them motivated to [“Be the Force”] in their journey of fitness,” Gondal said, adding that Web3 is going to change the way companies interact with customers.

On the other hand, Yat Siu, the executive chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands said his company was delighted to invest in a project dedicated to making people healthier.

“GOQii has built a platform that leverages the power of gamification to make the preventive healthcare journey enjoyable for the masses, and we look forward to leveraging its synergies with OliveX and other companies in our portfolio.”

Animoca now joins the likes of Sumeru Ventures, Modality (Digality), 9 Unicorns, Venture Catalysts and more, who participated in the $50 million Series C round in a rapidly growing team of backers that also includes MegaDelta, DSG Consumer Partners, Galaxy Digital, and Denlow Investment Trust, among others.
