Animoca Brands has announced the acquisition of Eden Games from Engine Gaming and Media. The Hong Kong-based Web3 and Gamefi investment firm said it purchased 100% of Eden Games’ issued capital from its parent, bringing some of the leading video games made by the France-based developer studio to the blockchain.

Eden Games is the developer of Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, F1® Mobile Racing, Gear Club, and Test Drive. Animoca is looking to expand its metaverse gaming footprint with its newest acquisition.

According to the announcement, Eden Games products range in variety, from pure racing to open-world and management racing games. Its portfolio of products features 13 million game boxes sold and has attracted more than 60 million app downloads globally.

In March, Apple announced Eden Games’ upcoming ‘Gear Club: Stradale’ as the “next big release” coming exclusively to Apple Arcade.

Gear.Club is described as a hyper-realistic racing simulator. It served as the primary racing game for the open qualifiers of the World’s Fastest Gamer, a first-of-its-kind competition with over 400 million TV and video on demand viewers worldwide.

Eden Games has established multiple partnerships with some of the leading luxury brands in the automobile industry, including 30 established brands in the automotive industry, including BMW, Bugatti, Porsche, Lotus, and Pagani.

Animoca will use the new games to augment its offerings in the NFT Race Passes, bringing a series of blockchain-based games to the market.

Commenting on the acquisition, Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands said: “With its quarter of a century of expertise in building high-quality motorsport video games, Eden Games will enhance and accelerate the development of the REVV Motorsport ecosystem and add powerful value to the REVV community and the racing metaverse.”

On the other hand, David Nadal, co-founder and head of studio of Eden Games commented: “We are excited to start the next chapter of Eden Games by joining Animoca Brands. We look forward to producing new experiences that challenge the status quo within the motorsport genre and venture into new frontiers such as Web3 alongside a leader in the space.”

Animoca has been expanding its presence in the gaming and Web3 space through acquisition and niche partnerships. In March, it acquired Grease Monkey Games, bringing Torque Burnout to its expanding gaming ecosystem.  It has also partnered with leading entertainment companies like Cube Ent to offer experiential events in the metaverse.
