Leading blockchain and metaverse gaming investment company Animoca Brands has completed the 100% acquisition of indie game developer Grease Monkey Games. The company’s latest acquisition could bring popular motorsport games Torque Burnout and Torque Drift to the blockchain.

Grease Monkey Games is an Australian gaming company founded in 2013 by Arran Potter. The veteran of the video visual effects industry has created high-quality motorsport games highlighted by the likes of Torque Burnout and Drift games.

Writing on its website blog, Animoca said Grease Monkey Games’ extensive motorsport gaming experience and partnerships built over the years adds significant game development capabilities to its gaming ecosystem.

Grease Monkey Games have been downloaded more than 45 million times across mobile and PC. The company will soon announce the launch of a major cross-platform racing game built in Unreal Engine 5.

Grease Monkey Games’ management team will retain their roles after the acquisition. However, they work closely with Animoca Brands’s blockchain gaming unit to “align efforts relating to blockchain integration, fungible tokens, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), play-to-earn capabilities, synergy opportunities, and product launches,” the company wrote, highlighting its REVV Motorsport ecosystem.

Commenting on the acquisition, Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands said “[the company] is incredibly thrilled to welcome Grease Monkey Games, a team that has experience in developing AAA gaming titles and shares our vision for the open metaverse and, more specifically, for our own REVV Motorsport.”

On the other hand, Arran Potter, founder and managing director of Grease Monkey Games expressed his excitement for joining Animoca Brands’ gaming empire saying, “with our combined experience and licensed partners, we can build unique digital experiences for the REVV ecosystem.”

Animoca’s latest acquisition comes following the competition of huge funding round, where it raised $359 million from venture capital firms. The company said it was going to use the funds to expand its product offering including through acquisitions.

Animoca Brands with its subsidiary GAMEE also announced the listing of GAMEE token (GMEE) on Huobi Global on Thursday, warning its fans and token trading community that it has no association with the Änimoca Brands Metaverse” token.
